Proposed California Legislation to Legalize Recovery of Meat from Roadkill

SB 395 (named after California's highway 395) was introduced on 2/21 to legalize the recovery of meat from roadkilled animals. It also would make legal the mercy killing of animals severely injured by collisions with vehicles. The bill would require the person recovering the meat to report the carcass -- location, date/time and species, possibly through CROS! This would emulate the system in Idaho, where data on roadkill went up significantly once people were required to report salvaging.
