taveled from Richmond to Pittsfield on 295 and 95 on Sat, north of Waterville saw 4 dead porcupines in a 5 miles stretch, also spotted what looked like a dead crow and several other roadkills that were not discernable.

Porcupine Observations

Yikes-- poor porcupines. Overall, porcupines are one of the most common observations reported by volunteers.

Porcupines are quite common in Maine, and because of this, a little undervalued. Porcupines play an important role in creating habitat for other wildlife species-- by chewing on trees and branches, they increase the structural diversity of the forest canopy and understory layers. Thanks for adding to the WRW blog and please continue to enter any porcupine crossings, live or dead.
